Windows 10 may have some good features and it may be a significant improvement over the previous systems, but the way it collects information and takes control away from the user makes many people avoid it like the plague. If you don't want your operating system collecting your data and sending it to Microsoft so that they or a third party can serve you with ads, you can turn to PrivateWin10 to circumvent some features that some consider being borderline illegal. Just click a few buttons and you will feel safe once again in front of your own computer.

The application is free and open source, and you can just extract its components from a ZIP archive, without going through an installation process. It doesn't require any special tools or services, and it doesn't use a significant amount of resources. Obviously, the software is designed specifically for Windows 10, so it wouldn't make much sense to use it on an older system.

You can make a wide range of changes to your system, without getting caught in any complex controls. The software presents numerous features that may invade your privacy, which you can turn off with a single click. It gives you full control to disable the operating system's telemetry and error reporting, search and Cortana features, Windows Defender, privacy and advertisement features and much more.

As previously mentioned, you can turn off a particular feature by simply clicking an on/off switch, but you can also select that feature to see its individual components, which you can enable and disable separately. This gives you the possibility of disabling something you don't want, like your browsing habits, while still keeping on to something that may actually be somewhat useful, like error reporting.

PrivateWin10 comes with built-in firewall controls, which give you the possibility of preventing third-party applications from sending your private data over the Internet. It presents a list of everything that's installed on your computer, and it lets you pick between several settings, from allowing an application to communicate on the Internet to completely blocking any communications. Additionally, the software lets you set up custom rules for each application, so you get to decide what may communicate, where and how.

With PrivateWin10 installed on your system, you can enjoy the new and improved features of Windows 10, without having to deal with any of its drawbacks.

Pros

You can disable a wide range of unpopular features in Windows 10. It takes a single click to disable any feature. The software also comes with built-in firewall controls.

Cons

Some of PrivateWin10's changes can be permanent, and you may end not being able to search in the Start menu for example. An option for reverting to the original settings would be good to have.
